No. 2018-18 <br />North Kohala Community Access Group <br />March 7, 2018 (Old State Judiciary Building 4:30pm) <br />Participants: Jack Hoyt, Beth Robinson, Teri Takata, David Swatland, Cheryl Kaluhane <br />Lupenui, Toni Withington, Carter Collins, Sara Cameron, Pete Cameron, Aric Arakaki, Joe <br />Carvalho, Ralph Galan, Ted Matsuda. <br />❖ Pololu Lookout <br />o State Na Ala Hele is supporting a legislative bill on CIP that includes Pololu <br />Lookout. <br />■ They would like funding to do a survey of the state lands at the lookout <br />area. <br />o The growth management group is keeping in touch with the <br />subdivision/consolidation application for Surety. <br />■ They hope that there could be a land swap for a new parking lot area. <br />❖ Niulii <br />o Cheryl Lupenui (CEO) of Kohala Center attended this meeting and said they will <br />have a meeting with the community for input on the land area when it is <br />appropriate. <br />■ They are interested in identifying local ancestors of this area. <br />o They are working with a neighboring owner on his waterline easement issue. <br />o The land sits idle right now while they are doing soil sampling. <br />❖ Hapu'u — Kapanaia <br />o HILT did a tour of the Hapu'u-Kapanaia corridor for potential supporters for <br />more purchases in that area. <br />■ This may have an impact on private -public matching funds to purchase <br />public lands. <br />o Charlie Anderson's property (Half O' Kaiili) is in escrow and is ready to close. <br />■ This public purchase is using total funding from PONC. <br />o Pacific Plains lands was approved by the county council to enter into negotiations <br />for PONC purchase. <br />■ PONC will wait to negotiate until the Hali O' Kaiili parcel has closed <br />escrow. <br />•'• Halelua <br />• o NSTR - Need update from county planning department on GOE. <br />•'• Pahoa Beach <br />• o NSTR - Need update from county planning department <br />❖ Upolu Airport East <br />o Landowners and the county have not agreed on the parking lot for access. <br />o EWM, the owner, is working on a solution to the access issues. <br />❖ Upolu Airport Restoration <br />o Kohala Lihikai is having high a school senior do soil erosion for their senior <br />proj ect. <br />Page 1 1 <br />
