<br />BOARD OF APPEALS <br />08/29/18 <br />Purpose: To hear and determine all appeals from the final decisions of the <br />Planning Director or the Director of Public Works regarding <br />matters within their respective jurisdictions. <br /> <br />Authority: Hawai‛i County Charter, Section 6-9.2. <br /> <br />Appointment: Mayor with Council approval. Normal five year staggered terms. <br /> <br />Full Membership: Seven members. <br /> <br />Specific Representation: None required. <br /> <br />Requirements: No more than four shall belong officially to the same political <br />party. The Board shall be part of the Planning Department for <br />administrative purposes. <br /> <br />Meetings: Generally, once a month on the second Friday of the month, <br />10:00 a.m., alternately between Aupuni Center Conference <br />Room in Hilo and West Hawai‘i Civic Center in Kona. <br /> <br />Financial Disclosure: Members must file Financial Disclosure within 20 working days <br />of taking the oath of office. Thereafter, annual disclosures must <br />be filed on or before January 31. The disclosures are <br />confidential and will be kept on file by the Board of Ethics. <br />County Code, Chapter 2, Section 2-91.1. <br /> <br />Reappointment: Following the expiration of a term, no member may be <br />reappointed for at least two years. <br /> <br />Qualities: Respected by the community as being community-minded and <br />oriented. Able to focus on the community needs as a whole <br />without catering to special or self-interest. Board membership <br />shall be representative of the community, and, whenever <br />possible, persons with background or expertise in broad areas of <br />planning and construction shall be given preference, although <br />such knowledge is not a prerequisite for membership. <br /> <br />Current Members: Seat No., Name, and Term Expiration Date <br /> 1.
