<br /> <br />ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT COMMISSION FACT SHEET* <br /> <br />Purpose: Advise the department on waste reduction strategies, recycling, litter <br /> control, community involvement, and other issues related to the functions of <br /> the department, and exercise any other powers related to the functions of <br /> the department delegated by ordinance. <br /> <br />Authority: Hawaiʻi County Charter, Sec?on 6-10.5. <br /> <br />Appointment: Mayor with Council approval. <br /> Normal 5-year staggered terms. <br /> <br />Full membership: Nine members. <br /> <br />Specific representation: One member from each council district. <br /> <br />Requirements: No more than five members shall belong officially to the same political party. <br /> <br />Meetings: Regular monthly meetings unless otherwise specified by the Commission. <br /> <br />Financial disclosures: Members must file financial disclosures within 20 working days of taking <br /> office. Thereafter, annual disclosures must be filed on or before January 31. <br /> The disclosures are confidential and will be kept on file by the Board of <br /> Ethics.
