J�tY OF H,'• <br /> \ :'ice � <br /> -� il�ll��i• �. <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII �• '=-�� /_#- STATE OF HAWAII <br /> • <br /> •TEOF N�'� <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 726 20 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE HAWAII <br /> COUNTY ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY COUNCIL TO PURCHASE CITRIC ACID TO <br /> HELP CONTROL COQUI FROGS IN COUNCIL DISTRICT 2. <br /> WHEREAS, on Hawai`i Island, the Eleutherodactylus coqui, or coqui frog, continues to <br /> cause many areas in Hilo to be inundated with the incessant night-time chirping; and <br /> WHEREAS, the coqui frog population is persistently high, especially at the lower <br /> elevation, and remains a constant threat to Hawai`i's island ecosystem because of its voracious <br /> appetite that puts our unique insects and spiders at risk; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Hawai`i County Economic Opportunity Council (HCEOC) is a <br /> 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has assisted the County in its effort to control the coqui <br /> frog infestation; and <br /> WHEREAS, HCEOC is requesting funds to purchase citric acid to help control the coqui <br /> frog infestion in Council District 2; and <br /> WHEREAS, one of the objectives of the Department of Research and Development is to <br /> support research or extension projects on invasive species, such as the coqui frog; and <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 2 will be appropriated to the Department of <br /> Research and Development to provide a grant to the Hawai`i County Economic Opportunity <br /> Council to purchase citric acid to help control the coqui frog infestation in Council District 2. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby <br /> transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
