-.JiitY OF , . <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII :•i�‘..=-���/� • STATE OF HAWAII <br /> \N„.... <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 729 20 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE EXPLORATION <br /> FOUNDATION TO PURCHASE CHROMEBOOKS FOR STUDENTS AT THE WEST <br /> HAWAII EXPLORATIONS ACADEMY. <br /> WHEREAS, the Exploration Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose <br /> mission is to promote educational innovation through outreach, technical assistance, and <br /> advocacy for the West Hawaii Explorations Academy (WHEA), a public charter school that <br /> focuses on the advancement of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through <br /> hands-on, project-based learning; and <br /> WHEREAS, WHEA has implemented distanced learning to best ensure physical <br /> distancing among its students, teachers, and school staff; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Exploration Foundation is requesting funds to purchase Chromebook <br /> laptops for the students of WHEA during the COVID-19 pandemic to assist with distanced <br /> learning; and <br /> WHEREAS, one of the goals of the Department of Liquor Control is to support youth <br /> programs that promote educational activities in a drug- and alcohol-free environment; and <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 8 will be appropriated to the Department of <br /> Liquor Control to provide a grant to the Exploration Foundation to purchase Chromebooks for <br /> students at the West Hawai`i Explorations Academy. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby <br /> transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
