REQUEST: <br />September 8, 2020 <br />808 961-8811 <br />Resolution authorizing County (via R & D) to enter into agreement with the University of Hawaii, to provide <br />funding for its "Extension Services to Manage Little Fire Ants on Hawaii Island" proposal. <br />B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): <br />Pursuant to Hawaii Revised Statutes § 46-7, the County may enter into agreements with "any public body" <br />with the consent of Council. R & D is requesting that Council approve a resolution authorizing R & D to enter <br />into an agreement with the University of Hawaii, a public body, for the purposes of funding its program, <br />"Extension Services to Manage Little Fire Ants on Hawaii Island", pursuant to HCC 2-139(3)(c). <br />Little Fire Ants are a major urban, agricultural, and environmental pest species that has beome entrenched in <br />every district of Hawaii Island. This project aims to raise awareness of this issue to agricultural enterprises <br />and provide outreach material detailing procedures for controlling it on agricultural properties. Alternative <br />methods to distribute the information and provide technical assistance will be implemented in response to <br />the COVID-19 situation. <br />This proposal is for $21,850.16 and will allow for the University of Hawaii to purchase radio and television time <br />to disseminate the information and materials, staff support, supplies and travel. <br />Funds are from 2020-21 Fiscal Year Budget. <br />0�g�t2 L LGA September 8. 2020 <br />SIGNED: Giane'L.Ley iSep iCi,2;:2 1:24H'M DATE: <br />Department Head <br />
