REQUEST: <br />Resolution authorizing the County Department of Research and Development to enter into agreement with <br />the University of Hawai'i, to provide funding for its "Imiloa Outdoor Exhibits Enhancement and Learning <br />Space" proposal. <br />B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): <br />Pursuant to Hawaii Revised Statutes §46-7, the County may enter into agreement with "any public body" <br />with the consent of Council. R&D is requesting that Council approve a resolution authorizing R&D to enter <br />into Can agreement with the University of Hawaii, a public body, for the purposes of funding its program, <br />"Imiloa Outdoor Exhibits Enhancement and Learning Space", pursuant to HCC 2-139(3)(c). <br />This proposal is for $15,000.00 and would support the University of Hawai'i's proposal for outdoor exhibit <br />enhancement that will allow Imiloa to serve our community in the near-term and provide a safe attraction for <br />visitors as they return to Hawaii Island. This project will dramatically expand place -based cultural and <br />educational delivery in a new direction for local residents and visitors, while creatively aligning with the <br />pandemic safety concerns and community sensitivies that are likely to presist for the next year or more. <br />The enhancement project will be adaptable for use with school children on field trips, as well as for family, <br />community, and public program offerings.
