No. 65 PLACE: Council Chambers Hilo, Hawaii TIME: 9:01 a.m. Council Chair and Members Hawaii County Council Hilo, Hawaii 96720 Your Committee on Parks and Recreation and Public Safety, to which was referred Communication No. 65, reports as follows: Communication No. 65, transmitted by Mayor Mitchell D. Roth, dated December 22, 2020, submitting for the Council's review and confirmation the nomination of Riley Smith of Council District 9 to the Liquor Commission. Executive Assistant Pomaika'i Bartolome appeared in Hilo Chambers and introduced the nominee who appeared via zoom. The nominee responded to comments made during testimony and replied to inquiry made by several Council Members. Council Member Maile David noted that the application provided to Council is from 2018 when the nominee applied for a seat on the Kailua Village Design Commission. Mr. Smith confirmed that is he is applying for a position on the Liquor Commission. Several Council Members commented in favor of the nominee's appointment. The nominee would not have to appear in person at Council for confirmation. Pursuant to Sections 7-3.2 and 13-4 of the Hawaii County Charter, members of the Liquor Commission shall be appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by Council.
