COUNTY O F HAWAII <br />RESOLUTION NO. <br />STATE OF HAWAII <br />59 2:1 <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br />AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO HAWAII RISE <br />FOUNDATION TO ASSIST WITH EXPENSES IN PREPARATION FOR THE 2021 <br />MAKAHIKI COMMUNITY CELEBRATION. <br />WHEREAS, Hawaii Rise Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports <br />the vulnerable, moderate to low-income families, children, and elderly through a broad range of <br />community initiatives and educational and cultural programs; and <br />WHEREAS, Hawaii Rise Foundation will be working with the Keli`i William Ioane <br />Legacy Foundation to prepare for the traditional Makahiki festival that has been and continues to <br />be a critically important time in the Hawaiian culture, as a season of peace, rest, and ceremonies <br />to honor Lono and bring our communities together toward prosperity; and <br />WHEREAS, the 2021 Makahiki opening ceremony will be held in November at Kulapae <br />in Keaukaha Park followed by the celebration at Lehia Beach Park; and <br />WHEREAS, Hawaii Rise Foundation is requesting funds to assist with expenses in this <br />fiscal year (2020-2021) in preparation for the 2021 Makahiki celebration, including kitchen <br />supplies for cooking and serving, cleaning supplies, cultural research, volunteer training, <br />Makahiki games equipment, and educational materials; and <br />WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation provides and facilitates a wide <br />variety of services to meet the needs of the community while maintaining the cultural uniqueness <br />of our rich heritage, diversity, and the aloha spirit; and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code, <br />Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br />resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br />activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br />therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br />Contingency Relief funds from Council District 3 will be appropriated to the Department of <br />Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to Hawaii Rise Foundation to assist with expenses in <br />this fiscal year (2020-2021) in preparation for the 2021 Makahiki community celebration. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby <br />transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
