AGING <br /> AGING <br /> 1. Age Well: Maximizing opportunities for older adults to age well, remain active, and <br /> enjoy quality lives while engaging in their communities. <br /> • 1.1: Engage with the community through outreach, information and assistance <br /> and utilization of the Aging &Disability Resource Center (ADRC) to keep <br /> seniors active and socially engaged. <br /> The ADRC continued with its practices to provide outreach, information and <br /> assistance to all participating seniors during the past year. Outreach <br /> opportunities declined over the last year due to limitations for large group <br /> gatherings and the cancellation of opportunities to provide outreach through <br /> participation in community events, aging fairs, and caregiver groups. <br /> Smaller outreach opportunities were made through Options Counseling, <br /> connection with third-party providers and online training. ADRC focused <br /> on sharing information with seniors pertaining to support groups and social <br /> online connections hosted by partnering agencies. ADRC provided <br /> information and assistance through incoming calls, scheduled 1:1 Option <br /> Counseling and assistance face-to-face interactions. <br /> ADRC piloted a smart phone program to help connect seniors with their <br /> families, friends, and support groups. In addition,ADRC secured CARES <br /> monies to implement a larger scale "smart phone" program that provides the <br /> option for 100 participants to receive smart phones and prepaid phone cards <br /> to help decrease feelings of isolation and loneliness. <br /> • 1.2: Gather community input on the congregate meal program and ways to <br /> maintain senior interest at each congregate meal site and assess community needs. <br /> Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the congregate meal sites have been closed <br /> since the end of March,2020. All meals have been delivered to the clients in <br /> various districts island-wide. There currently is a waitlist for this program <br /> due to high demand for this service. <br /> • 1.3: Ensure that the Better Choices, Better Health Programs are available to <br /> older adults throughout Hawai`i County, which includes training of Lay Leaders. <br /> All scheduled trainings for Master Trainers and Lay Leaders were cancelled <br /> due to COVID-19 pandemic protocols.
