COUNTY OF HAWAII <br />J�SY Ui N,�1 <br />•' �• STATE OF HAWAII <br />7rE Gf•N►•.11 <br />RESOLUTION NO. <br />97 21 <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED <br />FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO HAWAII ENVIRONMENTAL <br />RESTORATION FOR EXPENSES RELATED TO THE CONSERVATION AND <br />PRESERVATION OF KEAU`OHANA STATE FOREST RESERVE. <br />WHEREAS, Hawaii Environmental Restoration (HER) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit <br />organization whose mission is to help restore the natural integrity of Hawai`i's environment; and <br />WHEREAS, HER's primary project focuses on the restoration and preservation of <br />Keau`ohana State Forest Reserve in the Puna district, the largest and most intact lowland <br />rainforest below 1,000 feet in elevation remaining in the State of Hawaii; and <br />WHEREAS, Hawaii Island's ecosystems continue to be lost to development, <br />agriculture, and invasive species, and there is an urgent need for conservation planning and <br />implementation; and <br />WHEREAS, HER is requesting funds to purchase equipment for the conservation and <br />preservation of Keau`ohana State Forest Reserve; and <br />WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development supports the development of <br />a local economy that is diverse, stable, and in balance with Hawai`i's ecology, community <br />character, and cultural heritage; and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code, <br />Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br />resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br />activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br />therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br />Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the Department of <br />Research and Development to provide a grant to Hawaii Environmental Restoration for <br />expenses relating to the conservation and preservation of the Keau`ohana State Forest Reserve. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby <br />transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />V <br />
