REQUEST: <br /> A resolution authorizing the Mayor to enter into an agreement between the County of Hawaii and the United <br /> States Geological Survey (USGS)for the purpose of continuing the Cooperative Flood-Monitoring program <br /> on the Island of Hawaii. <br /> I <br /> B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): <br /> This agreement with the USGS is an annually budgeted,joint funding agreement where the County of <br /> Hawaii contributes$48,880 toward the flood-monitoring program for the collection of long-term systematic <br /> data of annual peak streamflow. The data collected is used to map flood-prone areas for land use <br /> management, and planning and designing flood management systems such as bridges, culverts, and levees. <br /> The agreement covers the cost for station operation and maintenance, quality assurance, real-time data <br /> display on the USGS website and data archival.
