Chapter 5A, Hawai`i County Code, is permitted for all buildings and structures, <br /> and parts thereof, included in the scope of this code." <br /> (7) Section R301, "Design Criteria," of the International Residential Code is amended <br /> by adding subsection 301.1.4, "Complete load path and uplift ties,"to read as <br /> follows: <br /> "R301.1.4 Complete load path and uplift ties. Blocking, bridging, straps, <br /> approved framing anchors, or mechanical fasteners shall be designed and <br /> installed to provide continuous ties from the roof to the foundation system. <br /> Sheet metal clamps, ties, or clips, must be formed of galvanized steel or other <br /> approved corrosion-resistant material not less than 0.040 inch (1.01 <br /> mm) nominal thickness. Uplift resistance shall be in accordance with Table <br /> R802.11." <br /> (8) Table R301.2(1), "Climatic and Geographic Design Criteria," of the International <br /> Residential Code is deleted in its entirety and replaced with the following: <br /> "TABLE R301.2(1) <br /> CLIMATIC AND GEOGRAPHIC DESIGN CRITERIA <br /> WIND SEISMIC SUBJECT TO DAMAGE FROM FLOOD <br /> SPEED DESIGN <br /> (mph) - CATEGORY Weathering Termite Decay HAZARDS <br /> Per FEMA or <br /> Figure D2 or E Negligible Very Moderate Chapter 27 <br /> R301.2(8) Heavy to severe HCC" <br /> (9) Subsection 301.2.1, "Wind design criteria," of the International Residential Code is <br /> amended to read as follows: <br /> "R301.2.1 Wind design criteria. Buildings and portions thereof shall be <br /> constructed in accordance with the wind provisions of this code [using] provided <br /> that the ultimate design wind [speed in Table R301.2(1)] speed, VULT, as <br /> determined from Figure R301.2(5)A, is less than 130 mph. The structural <br /> provisions of this code for wind loads are not permitted where wind design is <br /> required [as specified in Section R301.2.1.1] when VULT, determined from <br /> [Figures] Figure R301.2(5)(A), is equal to or greater than 130 mph. Where <br /> different construction methods and structural materials are used for various <br /> portions of a building, the applicable requirements of this section for each portion <br /> shall apply.1 . Where not otherwise specified, the wind loads listed in Table <br /> R301.2(2) adjusted for height and exposure using Table R301.2(3) shall be used <br /> to determine design load performance requirements for wall coverings, curtain <br /> walls, roof coverings, exterior windows, skylights, garage doors and exterior <br /> doors. Asphalt shingles shall be designed for wind speeds in accordance with <br /> Section R905.2.4. A continuous load path shall be provided to transmit the <br /> applicable uplift forces in Section R802.11.1 from the roof assembly to the <br /> 9 <br />
