BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): <br /> In January 2021, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development(HUD) announced a <br /> supplemental appropriation of$23,720,000 in Community Development Block Grant- Disaster Recovery <br /> (CDBG-DR) funds to Hawai'i County to support disaster relief and long-term recovery related to the 2018 <br /> Kilauea eruption. The notice published in the Federal Register requires grant recipients to "primarily consider <br /> and address its unmet housing recovery needs." Grant funds may be used for eligible unmet economic <br /> revitalization and infrastructure needs that are not related to housing if there is no remaining unmet housing ' <br /> | <br /> need. <br /> Resolution 768-20 adopted by the County Council on March 3, 2021, authorizes the County to enter into an <br /> agreement with the HUD toreceive and edminsherthese funds. <br /> An amended Action Plan for these CDBG-DR grant funds that details disaster innpacte, unmet recovery <br /> needs and identified projects with funding allocation has been approved bvHUD.
