p�Y.®R IJP. <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAPI STATE OF HAWAFI <br /> RESOLUTION Q. 292 22 <br /> A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING "MALAMA AKU INE: YEAR THE <br /> MOTHER2022" IN THE COUNTY F HAWAPI. <br /> WHEREAS, in Hawaii, makuahine can encompass all the female caretakers of the <br /> family, including mothers, aunts, older female cousins, hanai mothers and even kumu and close <br /> friends; and <br /> WHEREAS,those who malama, care for, and nurture us, deserve the utmost support and <br /> attention for their own emotional,physical and spiritual well-being, and <br /> WHEREAS, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or marital status, mothers <br /> have always moved our society and the world forward and remained steadfast in their pursuit of <br /> a better and brighter future for the next generation; and <br /> WHEREAS, mothers have not traditionally been perceived as essential workers around <br /> the world and are often undervalued, demeaned, unappreciated and unpaid; and <br /> WHEREAS, mothers have been the most adversely affected by the COVID 19 pandemic <br /> shouldering home, work, childcare, and teaching responsibilities while dealing with health <br /> issues, a rise in domestic violence and massive unemployment; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Committee on the Status of Women plans to lead a <br /> series of events,programs, and activities recognizing Malama Makuahine: Year of the Mother <br /> 2022; and <br /> WHEREAS, mothers, and the institution of motherhood, are so critical to society, they <br /> are worthy of more than just one celebration a year; now, therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it <br /> recognizes Malama Makuahine: Year of the Mother 2022 and supports the Hawaii County <br /> Committee on the Status of Women as they take the lead in establishing appropriate programs, <br /> ceremonies, roundtables, and activities recognizing the role of mothers. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all individuals are encouraged to partake in events <br /> that celebrate Malama Makuahine: Year of the Mother 2022. <br />
