In all, there are 15 Hawaii Registered <br /> Historic Sites, not including the Ala Loa trail. <br /> • According to a 1979 Bishop Museum report, these pre-contact archeological sites are <br /> valuable for testing the model of cultural transformation developed from pre-contact to <br /> the post-contact settlements found in Lapakahi (an ahupua'a to the north). <br /> • Preservation would create significant buffer between development along the South <br /> Kohala Coast and the ocean along the more pristine North Kohala Coast. <br /> 1.11 <br />
