No. 716 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Kailua-Kona, Hawaii <br /> TIME: 1:44 p.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Communication No. 716, reports as <br /> follows: <br /> Communication No. 716, transmitted by Mayor Mitchell D. Roth dated March 28, 2022, <br /> nominates Pernell Hanoa to the Ka`u Community Development Plan Action Committee <br /> (CDPAC). <br /> Ms. Pomaika`i Bartolome, Executive Assistant to Mayor Roth, was present via Zoom and <br /> introduced Mr. Hanoa. She explained that Mr. Hanoa and his `ohana have lived in Punalu`u and <br /> Ka`u since the 1800's. They have been deeply rooted in all things happening in Ka`u. Mr. Hanoa <br /> spent 10 years with the Directorate of Public Works (DPW) at the P6hakuloa Training Area <br /> (PTA) and as the current Facility Manager for the USDA-ARS Daniel K. Inouye Research <br /> Facility in Hilo. He is responsible for the repair and maintenance of the most advanced USDA- <br /> ARS research facility in the United States. He wants to ensure future development truly <br /> addresses the needs of the community. Mr. Hanoa coaches youth and high school sports, is a <br /> cultural practitioner, and a member of the Ka`u Preservation and Ka`u Advisory Council. If <br /> confirmed, he will serve a term to end December 31, 2025. <br /> Mr. Hanoa was present before Your Committee in the Kona Chambers. He first thanked his wife, <br /> Mrs. Sophia Hanoa for all the support she has given to the community and to him, and for always <br /> reminding him of his kuleana. He shared that he was born and raised in Ka`u, was a fisherman, <br /> rancher, and cowboy, had left to join the military, but returned to Ka`u. He stated that he would <br /> like to be a part of guiding community decisions and CDP implementation. <br /> Committee Member Maile David thanked Mr. Hanoa and his wife, for all they have done for the <br /> community. She noted that he is a perfect fit and looks forward to working with them in the <br /> future. <br /> Committee Members Tim Richards and Matt Kaneali`i-Kleinfelder voiced their support for <br /> Mr. Hanoa. <br /> PC Report No.: 60 <br />
