REQUEST: <br /> A Resolution authorizing County (via R & D) to enter into a contract with the Hawaii Tourism Authority to <br /> receive funds to implement the Resilience Corp and Community Tourism Collaborative programs that <br /> achieve actions identified in the Hawai'i Island Destination Management Action Plan. <br /> B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): <br /> Pursuant to Hawaii Revised Statutes §46-7, the County may enter into agreements with "any public body" <br /> with the consent of Council. R & D is requesting that Council approve a resolution authorizing R & D to enter <br /> into a contract with the Hawaii Tourism Authority, a public body, for the purposes of receiving funds in the <br /> amount of$175,000 to implement the Resilience Corps and Community Tourism Collaborative programs that <br /> achieve actions of the Hawai'i Island Destination Management Plan (DMAP), pursuant to HCC 2-139(3)(c). <br /> The DMAP contains specific actions and sub-actions that address the goals and objectives of the Hawai'i <br /> Island Tourism Strategic Plan. The purpose of the DMAP is to reset, rebuild and redefine tourism on the <br /> island, engage and collaborate with the public, private and community sectors, and improve current, and <br /> develop new, tourism products and offerings. The Resilience Corps will demonstrate efforts to redefine the ff <br /> visitor industry and diversify the economy using tourism as a vehicle. The Community Tourism Collaborative <br /> will support community organizations who are interested and committed to protecting culturally and <br /> a <br /> historically signficant sites and how the areas are visited by residents and visitors. <br /> Funds for these programs will be used to support'Aina-based stewards, supplies and program <br /> administration, as well as community-based training, the development of interpretive products and <br /> stewardship plans. <br /> SIGNED: DATE: 0512312022 <br /> CD46akment Head <br />
