A <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII � . .• STATE OF HA WAll <br /> 'ATE Gf•;I� <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 454 22 <br /> S <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE DAUGHTERS OF <br /> HAWAII TO ASSIST WITH EXPENSES RELATED TO PRESERVATION OF THE <br /> ROYAL BANYAN TREE PLANTED BY QUEEN KAPI`OLANI AT THE HULIHE`E <br /> PALACE. <br /> WHEREAS,the Daughters of Hawai`i is a 501(c)(3)nonprofit organization whose <br /> mission is to perpetuate the memory and spirit of old Hawai`i and to preserve the nomenclature <br /> and correct pronunciation of the Hawaiian language; and <br /> WHEREAS, in the 1880s,the Royal Banyan Tree at the Hulihee Palace in Kona was <br /> planted by Queen Kapi`olani, which was propagated from a cutting taken from a tree at `Iolani <br /> Palace in Honolulu that had been gifted by Indian royalty to the Queen's husband, King <br /> Kalakaua; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Royal Banyan Tree at Hulihee Palace is a major feature and landmark <br /> of the Historic Kailua Village that requires a complete examination and extensive trimming to <br /> preserve its legacy and minimize any hazards to the community; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Daughters of Hawai`i is requesting funds to assist with expenses related <br /> to an examination, extensive trim, and preservation of the Royal Banyan Tree planted by Queen. <br /> Kapi`olani at Hulihe`e Palace; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports programs that provide <br /> programs, educational activities, and community events in a drug-free and alcohol-free <br /> environment, such as preservation efforts toward the Royal Banyan tree at the Hulihee Palace; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 8 will be appropriated to the Department of <br /> Liquor Control to provide a grant to Daughters of Hawai`i to assist with expenses related to the <br /> preservation of the Royal Banyan Tree at the Hulihee Palace. <br />
