6JNgY.OF Pf,�t <br /> COUNTY OF 11t� n .} STATE OF G <br /> �t�•DF Nt+M <br /> RESOLUTION NO. <br /> A RESOLUTION TO AWARD A PUBLIC ACCESS, OPEN SPACE,AND NATURAL <br /> RESOURCES PRESERVATION MAINTENANCE FUND STEWARDSHIP GRANT TO <br /> NA MAKA HALOA O WAIPI`O. <br /> WHEREAS, Section 10-16 of the Hawaii County Charter establishes a Public Access, <br /> Open Space, and Natural Resources Preservation Maintenance Fund (hereinafter"Maintenance <br /> Fund") "to preserve the land, promote public safety, and maintain a healthy stewardship"; and <br /> WHEREAS, Section 10-16(h)provides that the Maintenance Fund may be used for a <br /> stewardship grant program, which allows 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations to apply for grant-in- <br /> aid projects funding; and <br /> WHEREAS,Na Maka Hdloa O Waipi`o is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization whose <br /> purpose is to preserve and restore indigenous Hawaiian culture, farming traditions, fishing <br /> practices, and hula; and <br /> WHEREAS,Na Maka Hdloa O Waipi`o submitted a Maintenance Fund stewardship <br /> grant application to continue providing land stewardship and cultural education for the Pohoiki <br /> property ((3) 1-3-008:097), which was acquired via the Public Access, Open Space, and Natural <br /> Resources Preservation Fund on November 17, 2015; and <br /> WHEREAS, during its September 14, 2020, meeting and pursuant to Section 2-217 of <br /> the Hawaii County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as amended), the Public Access, Open Space, and <br /> Natural Resources Preservation Commission forwarded a positive recommendation of the project <br /> applied for by Nd Maka Hdloa O Waipi`o to the Director of Parks and Recreation; and <br /> WHEREAS, Communication No. 844, as issued by the Director of the Department of <br /> Parks and Recreation on June 3, 2022, submitted for the Council's consideration nine <br /> applicants for stewardship grants for various properties that have been acquired by the County <br /> using the Public Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources Preservation Fund; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Director of the Department of Parks and Recreation in Communication <br /> No. 844 recommends that Nd Maka Hdloa O Waipi`o will be able to complete its project in <br /> accordance with the project description submitted and in strict adherence to the conditions <br /> governing the Public Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources Preservation Maintenance <br /> Fund; and <br />
