COUN'T'Y OF HA AI`I STATE OF I IA AI`I <br /> RESOLUTION <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRINGIAPPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION UT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUNIS ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATEDFUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO KOHANAIKI 'OHANA <br /> TO CONSTRUCT FENCING FOR KOHANAIKIEAC PARK. <br /> WHEREAS, the mission of Kohanaiki `Ohana, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is to <br /> remain active in the care and preservation of the cultural and natural resources at Kohanaiki <br /> Beach Park; and <br /> WHEREAS, the goal of Kohanaiki `Ohana is to foster community engagement and <br /> support through the development and implementation of innovative stewardship programs that <br /> are specific to Kohanaiki Beach Park; and <br /> WHEREAS, Kohanaiki Beach Park is managed through a three-way partnership <br /> between the County of Hawaii, the community, and Kohanaiki Shores LLC; and <br /> WHEREAS, Kohanaiki `Ohana is requesting funds to construct protective wire fencing <br /> around the Cultural Education Center's Native Plant Garden at Kohanaiki Beach Park, and <br /> related expenses, to protect a wide variety of native plants that were originally brought here by <br /> the early Polynesians for food, medicine and cordage, that is being damaged daily by wild goats; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, the Cultural Education Center falls within the Department of Parks and <br /> Recreation's Culture and Education program to promote, perpetuate, and encourage activities <br /> and programs in culture, art, history, and humanities; and <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 8 will be appropriated to the Department of <br /> Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to Kohanaiki `Ohana to construct wire fencing around <br /> the Cultural Education Center's Native Plant Garden at Kohanaiki Beach Park. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby <br /> transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
