S�zY,®s Mit 1 <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAPI <br /> OF <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 534 22 <br /> I <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT I <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TOA I <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE ZONTA CLUB OF <br /> I <br /> HILO FOUNDATION FOR ITS SERVICE PROJECTS THAT ARE DEDICATED TO i <br /> EMPOWERING AND INSPIRING YOUNG GIRLS. <br /> WHEREAS, the Zonta Club of Hilo Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization <br /> whose mission is to empower women and girls through service and advocacy; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Zonta Club of Hilo Foundation has designed several service projects <br /> geared towards exposing girls to positive experiences that inspire a strong sense of self, and <br /> WHEREAS, the Zonta Club of Hilo Foundation is hosting a free "Magnificent Me" <br /> conference at the University of Hawaii at Hilo on Friday, September 30, 2022, which will bring <br /> together 100 middle school girls from various Hawaii Island public schools to participate in <br /> workshops that build confidence and self-esteem, to engage in thought-provoking conversations, <br /> to bond with their peers, to experience a university setting, and to meet prominent professional <br /> women who can serve as mentors; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Zonta Club of Hilo Foundation promotes positive and non-violent <br /> behaviors by teaching "Hands Are Not for Hitting, Hands Are for Helping"through reading, <br /> singing, and crafts; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Zonta Club of Hilo Foundation hosts the "Amelia Earhart Girls in <br /> Engineering Day"to promote and encourage girls in fourth grade through eighth grade to pursue <br /> science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM)pathways; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Zonta Club of Hilo Foundation is requesting funds to purchase books, <br /> materials, and supplies to support the "Magnificent Me," "Hands Are Not for Hitting, Hands Are <br /> for Helping," and "Amelia Earhart Girls In Engineering Day"projects; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports public programs and projects <br /> that promote educational activities for youth in a drug- and alcohol-free environment; and <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, <br /> service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 1 will be appropriated to the Department of <br /> Liquor Control to provide a grant to the Zonta Club of Hilo Foundation for its service projects <br /> that are dedicated to empowering and inspiring young girls. <br />
