V Of <br /> �1drt3, <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII STA'T'E OF HAWAII <br /> RESOLUTION . r <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRINGIAPPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANTT UA LANI <br /> CHRISTIAN ACADEMY TO ASSIST WITH EXPENSES FOR ITS AEROSPACE <br /> MERIDIAN SPACE CLUB INK NA. <br /> WHEREAS, the Makua Lani Christian Academy (MLCA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit <br /> organization that provides education and character building through religion, academics, <br /> athletics, and arts to students from preschool to twelfth grade; and <br /> WHEREAS, MLCA's Aerospace Meridian Space Club was one of the winners of the <br /> NASA TechRlse Student Challenge and a finalist in the NASA HUNCH (high schools united <br /> with NASA to create hardware) program in which they were in fierce competition with students <br /> from highly competitive schools across the nation; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Aerospace Meridian Space Club received praise by NASA engineers <br /> that their engineering would potentially be used by NASA to educate and inspire the next <br /> generation of scientists and engineers; and <br /> WHEREAS, MLCA is requesting funds to assist with purchasing equipment, materials, <br /> and supplies for its AeroSpace Meridian Space Club in Kona; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports organizations and programs that <br /> promote positive, character building projects in a drug- and alcohol-free environment, such as <br /> MLCA's AeroSpace Meridian Space Club; and <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 8 will be appropriated to the Department of <br /> Liquor Control to provide a grant to the Makua Lani Christian Academy to assist with expenses <br /> for its AeroSpace Meridian Space Club in Kona. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby <br /> transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
