No. 1032 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Kailua-Kona, Hawaii <br /> TIME: 9:02 a.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Governmental Operations, Relations, and Economic Development,to which <br /> was referred Communication No. 1032, reports as follows: <br /> Transmitted by Mayor Mitchell D. Roth, via Communication No. 1032, dated September 26, 2022, <br /> submitting for the Council's review and confirmation the appointment of Rabbi Rachel Short to <br /> the Board of Ethics. <br /> Ms. Pomaika`i Bartolome, Executive Assistant to Mayor Roth, introduced Rabbi Rachel Short, a <br /> 10-year resident of Hawaii and a holistic healer. Rabbi Rachel has a Bachelor of Arts degree in <br /> Interpersonal Communications and Human Relations and has been an active community volunteer <br /> serving as a board member for the Hawaii Island United Way, the Interfaith Community, Kilauea <br /> Hui, Red Cross Spiritual Care, and Hadassah Lifetime. <br /> Rabbi Rachel was present and said she was grateful for the opportunity to serve and will strive to <br /> interpret issues in an ethical manner based on the County Code. <br /> Council Member Kierkiewicz thanked Rabbi Rachel for stepping up and stated that she has <br /> worked with her previously and knows she will operate with honesty and integrity. <br /> Council Member Kaneali`i-Kleinfelder also stated his support for the appointment of Rabbi Rachel <br /> to the Board of Ethics and said her energy and mindset would be a good addition to the board and <br /> her attention to equity would be appreciated. <br /> Committee Chair Kimball concluded the item. The final vote on Rabbi Rachel's appointment will <br /> be on November 2, 2022. <br /> If confirmed, Rabbi Rachel Short will serve a term to end December 31, 2025. <br /> GOREDC Report No. 28 <br />
