October 25, 2022, HSAC Meeting Agenda Page ( 17
ti
indicated that the sea grant is going to receive X50 from the Peds, so
that might answer the funding question. Chip .Fletcher from UH is working closely
on this. I think we should watch this closely now, as they are expecting so much
money. We should just watch and support what is introduced at the legislature.
CMKimball: We have grant funding to support this. Not sure if it makes sense to
re-word this as counties just want to s
CM Paltin: Wondering if sea grant receiving funding does it include pathways and
plans. not everyone agrees in managed retreat, us as legislators are supposed to be
setting the policy in how, what, where, and when in terms of certainty. Is it known
what exactly the $50M will be going to. As legislators we need to be setting the policy.
Jon Okudara: They are working on sea level rise, do not know specifics of what they
will propose or direct. Legislators were at the meeting who will be waiting for a
proposal from UH. Right now, do not know what we can add to it to make it clearer.
CM Pal tin:Agree.
CM Waters:Agree.
CM Chock:Roll call, .Hawaii - no, Maui - no w/r, HNL -yes, Kauai -yes. Measure
fails.
Deferred. Measure does not advance.
vi. HSAC proposal from Councilmember Kelly King
FOR INCLUSION IN THE 2023 HAWAII STATE
ASSOCIATION OF COUNTIES LEGISLATIVE PACKAGE A
STATE BILL RELATING TO SPECIAL MANAGEMENT
AREAS. Pending full council review on November 4, 2022.
