Fax(808)961-8248 <br /> PUBLIC ACCESS, OPEN SPACE, AND NATURAL RESOURCES <br /> PRESERVATIONI I <br /> December 2 , 2022 <br /> Mayor Mitch Roth <br /> County of Hawaii <br /> 25 Aupuni Street <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Dear Mayor Roth: <br /> Attached is the 2022 Annual Report of the County of Hawaii Public Access, Open <br /> Space, and Natural Resources Preservation Commission (PONC), pursuant to Section <br /> 2-217 (2) of the Hawaii County Code. <br /> The Public Access, Open Space and Natural Resources Preservation Fund (FUND) <br /> establishes a unique pathway in the County of Hawaii giving the public the opportunity <br /> to nominate properties for Fee Simple or Conservation Easement acquisition thru the <br /> FUND. Significant lands acquired in perpetuity for the preservation and protection of <br /> cultural and historic sites, native habitat, natural resources, public access, and open <br /> space. It is so great to see that PONC acquisitions continue to expand in utilizing <br /> Conservation Easements thereby stretching the value of the FUND, leveraging funds <br /> from other sources and the many partnerships involved. <br /> This is the first time in two years that the Commission were able to resume in-person <br /> meetings, re-connect with each other and members in the community, and it has been a <br /> busy year. The PONC Commission reviewed eight Suggestion Forms and fifteen <br /> Hawaii County is an equal opportunhy provider and employer•. <br />
