COUNTY OF HAWA111 STATE OF HAWAIII {rF OFaNp'� SOLUTION NO. 42 23 A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO GRASSROOTS CHURCH FOR EXPENSES RELATED TO ITS KULEANA PROJECT. WHEREAS, Grassroots Church is a 501(c)(3)nonprofit whose mission is to be a light in the world through service and community involvement; and WHEREAS, Grassroots Church is spearheading the Kuleana Project, a workforce development, food sustainability, and community-building program; and WHEREAS, Grassroots Church would like to create a resilient space on a 13-acre lot in Pahoa to serve as a gathering point for its Kuleana Project, with the potential to serve as a distribution point during times of disaster and emergency; and WHEREAS,the Kuleana Project will also have a food hub to wash, sort,pack, and process the kalo (taro), `olena(turmeric), cassava, squash, `uala(sweet potato), basil, and other agricultural products grown onsite; and WHEREAS, Grassroots Church is requesting funds for its Kuleana Project to assist with expenses such as equipment and supplies for clearing land, tents and tables for workshops,hoses and water pumps, and costs associated with the processing, harvesting, and packaging of crops; and WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development supports sustainable agricultural practices by promoting educational opportunities designed to build skills and community capacity in agricultural activities; and WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the Department of Research and Development to provide a grant to Grassroots Church for expenses related to its Kuleana Project.
