COUNTY OF HAWA111 <br /> STATE OF HAWAIII <br /> {rF OFaNp'� <br /> SOLUTION NO. 42 23 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO GRASSROOTS <br /> CHURCH FOR EXPENSES RELATED TO ITS KULEANA PROJECT. <br /> WHEREAS, Grassroots Church is a 501(c)(3)nonprofit whose mission is to be a light in <br /> the world through service and community involvement; and <br /> WHEREAS, Grassroots Church is spearheading the Kuleana Project, a workforce <br /> development, food sustainability, and community-building program; and <br /> WHEREAS, Grassroots Church would like to create a resilient space on a 13-acre lot in <br /> Pahoa to serve as a gathering point for its Kuleana Project, with the potential to serve as a <br /> distribution point during times of disaster and emergency; and <br /> WHEREAS,the Kuleana Project will also have a food hub to wash, sort,pack, and <br /> process the kalo (taro), `olena(turmeric), cassava, squash, `uala(sweet potato), basil, and other <br /> agricultural products grown onsite; and <br /> WHEREAS, Grassroots Church is requesting funds for its Kuleana Project to assist with <br /> expenses such as equipment and supplies for clearing land, tents and tables for workshops,hoses <br /> and water pumps, and costs associated with the processing, harvesting, and packaging of crops; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development supports sustainable <br /> agricultural practices by promoting educational opportunities designed to build skills and <br /> community capacity in agricultural activities; and <br /> WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, <br /> service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the Department of <br /> Research and Development to provide a grant to Grassroots Church for expenses related to its <br /> Kuleana Project. <br />
