STATE OF HAWAII <br /> ,+T, .„--_-:-.;.-ti-`� <br /> BILL NO. 8 <br /> ORDINANCE NO. 23 19 <br /> AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 15,ARTICLE 7, SECTION 15-62, OF THE <br /> HAWAII COUNTY CODE 1983 (2016 EDITION,AS AMENDED), RELATING TO THE <br /> MEMBERSHIP OF THE VETERANS ADVISORY COMMITTEE. <br /> BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII: <br /> SECTION 1. Chapter 15, article 7, section 15-62, of the Hawai`i County Code 1983 <br /> (2016 Edition, as amended), is amended to read as follows: <br /> "Section 15-62. Membership and tenure. <br /> (a) The members shall serve staggered terms of five years. , <br /> (b) The membership of the committee shall include one representative each from the <br /> American Legion, Big Island National Guard Retirees Association, Big Island <br /> I Retired Military Association, [Disabled American Veterans,] and Veterans of <br /> Foreign Wars. The committee shall also include [seven] eight at-large members. <br /> Seven or more of the twelve members of the committee shall have served in the <br /> United States uniformed services; provided that the committee may still meet and <br /> conduct business if due to a vacancy or vacancies less than seven members have <br /> served in the United States uniformed services. <br /> (c) Initially, two members shall be appointed for a term of one year,two members shall <br /> be appointed for a term of two years, three members shall be appointed for a term of <br /> three years,three members shall be appointed for a term of four years, and three <br /> members shall be appointed for a term of five years. <br /> (d) Any vacancy on the committee shall be filled for the remainder of the unexpired <br /> term, but members whose terms have expired may continue to serve until their <br /> successors have been appointed and confirmed. <br /> (e) Members shall be eligible to succeed themselves for additional terms, provided that <br /> no member shall serve on the committee for more than three consecutive terms." <br /> SECTION 2. Material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken. New material is <br /> underscored. In printing this ordinance,the brackets, bracketed and stricken material, and <br /> underscoring need not be included. <br /> SECTION 3. Severability. If any provision of this ordinance, or the application thereof <br /> to any person or circumstance, is held invalid,the invalidity does not affect other provisions or <br /> applications of the ordinance that can be given effect without the invalid provision or <br /> application, and to this end the provisions of this ordinance are severable. <br /> J <br /> 1 <br />
