i <br /> t <br /> tY,O H <br /> COUNTY <br /> 1AEOFNAJr <br /> SOLUTION NO. 90 23 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING A APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE MERRIE <br /> MONARCH FESTIVAL FOR EXPENSES RELATED TO THE 60TH ANNUAL MERRIE <br /> MONARCH FESTIVAL. <br /> WHEREAS, The Merrie Monarch Festival is a 501(c)(3)nonprofit organization that <br /> perpetuates the memory and legacy of King David Kalakaua through an internationally <br /> renowned annual celebration of hula and Hawaiian culture; and <br /> WHEREAS, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival was cancelled in 2020 <br /> and modified in 2021 and 2022, thus creating a disruption in the normal financial structure and <br /> operations to sustain the event; and <br /> WHEREAS, the festival will be held from April 9th-15th, 2023, and include an <br /> invitational arts fair, cultural demonstrations, hula performances, and a parade that showcases the <br /> many cultures of Hawaii; and <br /> WHEREAS, The Merrie Monarch Festival is requesting funds for expenses related to the <br /> 60th Annual Merrie Monarch Festival, which include, but are not limited to, safety supplies, <br /> equipment, and security services; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation provides and facilitates a wide <br /> variety of services to meet the needs of the community while maintaining the cultural uniqueness <br /> of Hawai`i's rich heritage, diversity, and the aloha spirit; and <br /> WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, J' <br /> service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,therefore, <br /> 4 <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 3 will be appropriated to the Department of <br /> Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to The Merrie Monarch Festival for expenses related to <br /> the 601h Annual Merrie Monarch Festival. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby <br /> transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
