3 <br /> 1 <br /> c}MSYfOF'NtW <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br /> E pf•fit►•' <br /> 3 <br /> I <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 152 23 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO FRIENDS OF THE <br /> FUTURE FOR THE 2023 WAIPI`O VALLEY KALO FESTIVAL. <br /> WHEREAS, Friends of the Future is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that envisions <br /> harmony and balance among the diverse people of Hawaii and encourages each person to <br /> contribute their deepest values and create shared visions; and <br /> WHEREAS, Friends of the Future is working in partnership with Hd Ola o Waipi`o <br /> Valley on logistics for the 2023 Waipi`o Valley Kalo Festival, which is a free event scheduled to <br /> be held on June 17, 2023, at Kukuihaele, near Waipi`o Valley; and <br /> WHEREAS,the annual Waipi`o Valley Kalo Festival provides a day of celebrating and <br /> honoring multi-generational kalo farmers, musicians, cultural practitioners, families with <br /> genealogical ties, and those who perpetuate Hawaiian culture in Waipi`o Valley; and <br /> WHEREAS, festivities will include mo`olelo (stories) of the sacredness of Waipi`o <br /> Valley, learning about the many varieties and health benefits of kalo, how to ku`i kalo and the <br /> different farming styles, including the importance of wai (water) and kalo in Hawaiian culture; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, Friends of the Future is requesting funds to help defray the costs of this <br /> event, including, but not limited to, lei for honorary Kupuna, attendee reusable bags, festival <br /> t-shirts, and event supplies; and <br /> WHEREAS, one of the goals of the Department of Parks and Recreation is to provide <br /> events and activities that celebrate and commemorate our culture,heritage, and diverse <br /> communities; and <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 1 will be appropriated to the Department of <br /> Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to the Friends of the Future for the 2023 Waipi`o Valley <br /> Kalo Festival. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby <br /> transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
