No. 159-23 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Kailua-Kona, Hawaii <br /> TIME: 2:40 p.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 159-23, reports as follows: <br /> Resolution No. 159-23, transmitted by Finance Director Deanna Sako, via Communication No. 263 <br /> dated April 14, 2023, authorizes the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the State of Hawaii <br /> Department of Labor and Industrial Relations, pursuant to Hawaii Revised Statues Section 46-7, for a <br /> grant to the Hawaii County Research and Development Department. <br /> This resolution allows for the receipt of$965,600 in federally-derived funds, which would be <br /> used to assist individuals that have been adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic to enter, <br /> return to, or advance in high quality jobs. <br /> Committee Member Ashley L. Kierkiewicz invited newly appointed Research and Development Deputy <br /> Director Frecia Cevallos to provide background on this measure. <br /> Acting Committee Chair Michelle Galimba congratulated Ms. Cevallos on her new appointment. <br /> Committee Member Matt Kaneali`i-Kleinfelder commented on his excitement to work with <br /> Ms. Cevallos and asked her to provide the definition of WIOA for the public to which she replied, <br /> WIOA stands for Workforce Investment and Opportunity Act. <br /> Pursuant to Section 46-7, Hawaii Revised Statutes, the Mayor of the County of Hawaii is authorized to <br /> execute, on behalf of the County, this and all future agreements and related documents with the State of <br /> Hawaii Department of Labor and Industrials Relations as indicated above. <br /> FC Report No. 50 <br />
