Kimball, Council Chair
SUBJECT: District 1 Appointment to Youth Commission: HEMI MARTINEZ
Aloha!
I am pleased to appoint Hemi Martinez of Council District 1 to the County of Hawaii Youth
Commission.
Hemi is a 2023 graduate of Honoka`a High School wherein she held roles as Secretary and Vice
President in Student Body Government for the last 3 years. Throughout high school, Hemi also
participated as a student-athlete in wrestling, volleyball, and soccer, while being active in various
leadership positions on community service projects including the anti-bullying campaign, traffic
safety efforts and the annual community Thanksgiving dinner. Raised on her family farm, hard
work and malama `aina is second nature to Hemi, which also led her to volunteering at Pa`alaea,
the school farm in Honoka`a. Currently employed at Hina Rae's Caf6 in Waimea, Hemi loves
hula and archery and is entertaining a future in political science. I believe Hemi's experience,
background and interests position her to be an impactful voice for her peers and a beneficial
member on the inaugural Youth Commission, with a term ending on February 6, 2024.
Please place this communication on the next Governmental Operations and External Affairs
committee agenda.
Comm.
