COUNTY OF HAWAI I STATE OF HAWAI I <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 264 23 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE KELI`I WILLIAM <br /> IOANE LEGACY FOUNDATION FOR THE 2023 MAKAHIKI COMMUNITY <br /> CELEBRATION. <br /> WHEREAS,the Keli`i William Inane Legacy Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit <br /> organization created to honor and perpetuate the legacy of Keli`i William Inane, Jr., whose <br /> mission was to spread awareness of Native Hawaiian rights and issues and ensure the <br /> perpetuation of the Makahiki in Keaukaha; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Keli`i William Inane Legacy Foundation will prepare for the traditional <br /> Makahiki festival that has been and continues to be a critically important time in the Hawaiian <br /> culture, as a season of peace, rest, and ceremonies to honor Lono and bring our communities <br /> together toward prosperity; and <br /> WHEREAS, the 2023 Makahiki opening ceremony will be held in November at Kulapae <br /> Point on the eastern section of Keaukaha Beach Park followed by the celebration at Lehia Beach <br /> Park in Keaukaha; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Keli`i William Inane Legacy Foundation is requesting funds to assist <br /> with expenses in preparation for the 2023 Makahiki celebration, which include Makahiki prizes, <br /> apparel for community volunteers and participants, and area maintenance; and <br /> WHEREAS,the Department of Parks and Recreation provides and facilitates a wide <br /> variety of services to meet the needs of the community while maintaining the cultural uniqueness <br /> of our rich heritage, diversity, and the aloha spirit; and <br /> WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 3 will be appropriated to the Department of <br /> Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to the Keli`i William Inane Legacy Foundation to assist <br /> with expenses in preparation for the 2023 Makahiki community celebration. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby <br /> transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
