WHEREAS, the Council finds that awarding a stewardship grant to Kohala Lihikai will allow it to: (1) conduct a supplemental Archeological Survey, (2) make safety improvements for wildfire mitigation by pruning kiawe trees, removing wood fuel, removal of trash or debris, and weed-whacking grasses and groundcovers, (3) install interpretive signs to educate users regarding cultural care and trash removal, and (4) leverage partnerships to maintain a healthy stewardship of the heiau property; now,therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that, pursuant to Section 10-16(h) of the Hawai`i County Charter, a Maintenance Fund stewardship grant shall be awarded to Kohala Lihikai in the amount of$59,298.00. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that,pursuant to Section 10-16(g) of the Hawai`i County Charter, funds from the stewardship grant awarded by this resolution shall be used for public safety maintenance and preservation of the Kaiholena property, identified as tax map keys (3) 5-8-001:011, 019, 020, 021, 022, and 023. BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this resolution to the Director of Finance and the Department of Finance, Property Management Division.
