4OJNty of <br />L � <br />COUNTY OF HAWAII • STATE OF HAWAII <br />+>51t <br />OF�NF'� <br />RESOLUTION NO. 290 23 <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br />AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO ASSIST THE POLICE DEPARTMENT WITH <br />PURCHASING CERTIFIED AGRICULTURAL SCALES. <br />WHEREAS, agricultural theft is a persistent concern for Hawaii Island, and according <br />to the United States Department of Agriculture, losses from agricultural theft and vandalism, as <br />well as security expenses, cost farmers on Hawaii Island $9.6 million in 2019; and <br />WHEREAS, Hawaii Island has many rural farming areas, and agricultural theft in these <br />areas not only burdens farmers financially, but may also incentivize further thefts; and <br />WHEREAS, the Police Department's efforts to address agricultural theft would be <br />complemented by the acquisition of essential equipment, such as certified agricultural scales; and <br />WHEREAS, the Police Department is requesting funds to purchase certified agricultural <br />scales to aid in the prosecution of agricultural theft; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br />Contingency Relief funds from Council District 6 will be appropriated to the Police Department <br />to purchase certified agricultural scales. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby <br />transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />FUND: General <br />AMOUNT OF <br />APPROPRIATION: $1,500 <br />OUT AND FROM: <br />010.101.5101.91 Clerk -Council SVC — Contingency Relief <br />010.201.5203.20 Police Department <br />Police Admin Div -Equip <br />480 Misc. Equipment <br />(Certified Agricultural Scales) <br />$1,500 <br />$1,500 <br />
