J+tY'OF N1!r <br />COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br />rE.OFH` <br />RESOLUTION NO. 332 23 <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br />AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE YWCA OF <br />HAWAII ISLAND TO PROMOTE ITS 24-HOUR SEXUAL ASSAULT CRISIS <br />HOTLINE. <br />WHEREAS, the YWCA of Hawaii Island (YWCA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that is <br />dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and <br />dignity for all; and <br />WHEREAS, the YWCA's Sexual Assault Support Services (SASS) program, in <br />partnership with the Police Department, provides an array of support for victims of sexual assault, <br />including free, confidential counseling, crisis intervention, therapeutic services, and a 24 -Hour <br />Sexual Assault Crisis Hotline; and <br />WHEREAS, last year, the YMCA responded to 1,597 crisis and support calls on its <br />24 -Hour Sexual Assault Crisis Hotline, which serves as a lifeline for women, men, and children <br />who have survived sexual assault and need support on their journey towards healing; and <br />WHEREAS, the hotline also has a team of advocates who assist survivors with <br />navigating medical and legal processes by explaining their options, arranging nursing exams, <br />and coordinating with police, prosecutors, and healthcare providers; and <br />WHEREAS, the YWCA is requesting funds to cover advertising costs to promote its <br />24 -Hour Sexual Assault Crisis Hotline; and <br />WHEREAS, the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney supports projects that improve the <br />criminal justice system by identifying areas of need and working collaboratively with other <br />criminal justice agencies and the community to improve the quality of life in Hawaii County; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code, <br />Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br />resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, <br />service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br />Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the Office of the <br />Prosecuting Attorney to provide a grant to the YWCA of Hawaii Island to promote its 24 -Hour <br />Sexual Assault Crisis Hotline. <br />
