COUNTY OF HAWAI`I <br />STATE OF HAWAI`I <br />RESOLUTION NO. 329 23 <br />A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO <br />ANNUAL FLOOD -MONITORING AGREEMENTS WITH THE UNITED <br />STATES GEOLOGICAL SURVEY <br />WHEREAS, the Department of Public Works Engineering Division ("DPW') <br />would like to enter into annual agreements with the United States Geological <br />Survey ("USGS") for a flood -monitoring program that involves the collection of <br />long-term systematic data related to annual peak streamflow. The data collected <br />is used for: (1) mapping of flood -prone areas for land use management; and (2) <br />the planning and design of flood management systems such as bridges, culverts, <br />and levees; and <br />WHEREAS, due to the long-term nature of the flood -monitoring program, <br />DPW would like the authority to enter into annual flood -monitoring agreements <br />with the USGS for each of the next five (5) years, up to December 31, 2028. <br />WHEREAS, Hawaii Revised Statutes, Section 46-7, requires that County <br />departments obtain the consent of the council to enter into agreements with the <br />federal or state governments respecting action to be taken pursuant to any of the <br />powers granted by law to furnish, expend, and receive any funds or other <br />assistance in connection with projects being or to be undertaken pursuant to those <br />powers; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I, in <br />accordance with section 46-7, Hawaii Revised Statutes, that the Mayor of the <br />County of Hawaii is authorized to execute, on behalf of the County, an annual <br />flood -monitoring agreement with the USGS for each of the next five (5) years, up <br />to December 31, 2028. <br />
