COUNTY OF HAWAI`I STATE OF HAWAI`I RESOLUTION NO. 329 23 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO ANNUAL FLOOD -MONITORING AGREEMENTS WITH THE UNITED STATES GEOLOGICAL SURVEY WHEREAS, the Department of Public Works Engineering Division ("DPW') would like to enter into annual agreements with the United States Geological Survey ("USGS") for a flood -monitoring program that involves the collection of long-term systematic data related to annual peak streamflow. The data collected is used for: (1) mapping of flood -prone areas for land use management; and (2) the planning and design of flood management systems such as bridges, culverts, and levees; and WHEREAS, due to the long-term nature of the flood -monitoring program, DPW would like the authority to enter into annual flood -monitoring agreements with the USGS for each of the next five (5) years, up to December 31, 2028. WHEREAS, Hawaii Revised Statutes, Section 46-7, requires that County departments obtain the consent of the council to enter into agreements with the federal or state governments respecting action to be taken pursuant to any of the powers granted by law to furnish, expend, and receive any funds or other assistance in connection with projects being or to be undertaken pursuant to those powers; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I, in accordance with section 46-7, Hawaii Revised Statutes, that the Mayor of the County of Hawaii is authorized to execute, on behalf of the County, an annual flood -monitoring agreement with the USGS for each of the next five (5) years, up to December 31, 2028.
