COUNTY OF HAWAI I : ; STATE OF HAWAI I <br /> r . <br /> ' ,TE OFN►'� <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 388 23 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING THE SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO HAWAI`I WILDFIRE <br /> MANAGEMENT ORGANIZATION TO ASSIST WITH EXPENSES RELATING TO ITS <br /> WILDFIRE HOME RISK ASSESSMENT PROGRAM. <br /> WHEREAS, recent wildfire events across the State and County have caused a significant <br /> increase in the need for fire mitigation measures, especially home assessments for wildfire risks; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, Hawai`i Wildfire Management Organization(HWMO), a 501(c)(3) <br /> nonprofit organization, is looking to increase capacity for its Wildfire Home Risk Assessment <br /> program; and <br /> WHEREAS, a Wildfire Home Risk Assessment is conducted by a trained assessor who <br /> evaluates a person's home and landscape for wildfire and ember-ignition vulnerability, makes <br /> specific recommendations based on the property's risk factors, and provides informational <br /> materials and resources to the homeowner; and <br /> WHEREAS, HWMO offers its Wildfire Home Risk Assessment service at no cost to <br /> homeowners who reside in and around nationally recognized Firewise USA® communities, of <br /> which there are over ten on Hawai`i Island; and <br /> WHEREAS, HWMO is requesting funding assistance for contracted assessors and <br /> training for additional assessors for its Wildfire Home Risk Assessment program; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Hawaii Fire Department supports this project as it is in keeping with <br /> the goals and objectives of the department to provide for the effective management of fire <br /> services, including fire prevention; and <br /> WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, <br /> service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 9 will be appropriated to the Hawai`i Fire <br /> Department to provide a grant to Hawai`i Wildfire Management Organization to assist with <br /> expenses related to its Wildfire Home Risk Assessment program. <br />
