COUNTY OF HAWAI`I ; STATE OF HAWAI`I ar• t OF. - RESOLUTION NO. 422 24 A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO KA`AHAHUI '0 KA NAHELEHELE FOR EXPENSES RELATED TO ITS HAWAI`I ISLAND SEED BANK WHEREAS, Ka'ahahui '0 Ka Nahelehele (Nahelehele) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to facilitate and advocate for balanced scientific, cultural, and economic uses of Hawaiian ecosystems that promote traditional ahupua`a-based management; and WHEREAS,Nahelehele is dedicated to the perpetuation of native dry forest plants, insects, and birds, many of which are endangered, and environmental restoration, protection, and conservation of dry forest habitats; and WHEREAS, the increase in wildfires on Hawai`i Island requires efforts in post-fire restoration of impacted native forests; and WHEREAS,Nahelehele would like to partner with the State of Hawai`i, Department of Land and Natural Resources to collect common native species and bank them as a mitigation for post-fire restoration; and WHEREAS,Nahelehele is requesting funds for the cleaning, processing, packing, and databasing of the seed collections; and WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development supports research, development, control, and education that improves agricultural production, quality, resilience, and producer viability or reduces the impact of pests or disease on agricultural crops, livestock, forests, or the community; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 5 will be appropriated to the Department of Research and Development to provide a grant to Ka'ahahui `0 Ka Nahelehele for expenses related to its Hawai`i Island Seed Bank.
