No. 410-24 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i <br /> TIME: 10:40 a.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawai`i County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Legislative Approvals and Acquisitions, to which was referred Resolution <br /> No. 410-24, reports as follows: <br /> Resolution No. 410-24, transmitted by Michelle Galimba, via Communication No. 684, dated <br /> January 3, 2024, authorizes the Director of Finance to enter into negotiations for the acquisition of land <br /> or a conservation easement for all or a portion of the property identified as Tax Map Key: 8-7-11:002, <br /> situated in the District of South Kona, also known as `Io Lani Kea, utilizing the Public Access, Open <br /> Space, and Natural Resources Preservation Fund. <br /> The County seeks to acquire approximately 46.27 acres of land to protect cultural and natural <br /> resources and preserve portions of the ala loa or Ala Kahakai National Historic Trail. The parcel is <br /> listed as priority number twelve in the 2018 Annual Report of the Public Access, Open Space, and <br /> Natural Resources Preservation Commission. <br /> Finance Property Manager Hamana Ventura and Keoni Fox, President of the Ala Kahakai Trail <br /> Association, were available in chambers. Mr. Fox provided information and background on the <br /> property, as well as photos of the area. <br /> Your Committee on Legislative Approvals and Acquisitions is in accord with the purpose and intent of <br /> Resolution No. 410-24, and recommends its adoption. <br /> wpb <br /> AYES NOES ABS EX Respectfully submitted, <br /> EVANS.
