Flora and Fauna <br />95. There are stretches of undeveloped land <br />characterized by barren lava and lowland vegetation consisting of <br />kiawe, lantana, koa haole, and pasture grasses within the <br />Petition Area. Previous flora studies conducted on adjacent <br />lands south of Palani Road revealed that there are no endangered <br />plant species in these sections of the Petition Area. <br />96. A preliminary botanical study was conducted by <br />Intervenor HDC of its properties identified by TMK: 7-5-03: 6 & <br />7. of the approximately 70 species of plants recorded, only six <br />were native. None of the plants are considered rare, endangered <br />or threatened. <br />97. At Petitioner's request, the U.S. Department of <br />Interior, Fish and Wildlife Service, conducted surveys of several <br />parcels (TMK: 7-5-03: 23; 7-5-17: 1 & 19, 7-6-13: 9; 7-7-04: 2; <br />7-7-08: 27, 99 & 105) within the Petition Area. The surveyed <br />parcels were dominated by alien plant species and contained only <br />a few indigenous plant species. No threatened or endangered <br />plant species or any plant species of concern were found on the <br />properties surveyed. The Fish and Wildlife Service had no <br />objections to the redistricting of the properties with respect to <br />impacts on these species. <br />98. Previous fauna studies conducted on adjacent <br />lands revealed that there are no rare or endemic ecosystems in <br />the area. All of the animal life (i.e., mongoose, rats) are <br />introduced species. <br />
