The report concluded that archaeological or historical remains <br />were found on each of the parcels and each will require an <br />intensive archaeological survey. The report was not intended to <br />indicate the total number of sites on the parcels or provide any <br />significance evaluation of the sites within the seven parcels. <br />102. At Petitioner's request, the Department of Land <br />and Natural Resources, State Historic Preservation Division <br />(11SHPDB1), did an overview of a report entitled Central Kona <br />Archaeological Settlement Patterns. Petitioner had requested <br />SHPD to do a regional perspective of the Petition Area with <br />respect to what the archaeological and cultural resources were in <br />the area. The study would then provide the context in which <br />Petitioner could assess other archaeological survey reports in <br />terms of uniqueness of features that are found in the area and <br />whether they fit this overall pattern. This paper briefly <br />summarized the archaeological site patterns for Central Kona and <br />only sites dating to pre -European contact (pre-A.D. 1779) times <br />and the early 1800s were considered. <br />103. Intervenor HDC's report entitled An <br />Archaeological Inventory Survey of 126 acres in the Ahupua`a of <br />Lanihau 2 Moeauoa 1 and Moeauoa 2 Kailua-Kona, Island of <br />Hawaii (Spear 1996) reported twenty-five significant historic <br />sites were found on Intervenor HDC's properties. Seventeen sites <br />were significant solely for their information content and eight <br />were significant for multiple criteria. SHPD approved the <br />archaeological inventory survey. A Data Recovery Plan was also <br />
