COUNTY OF HAWAII ° •: `'; �!• STATE OF HAWAII <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 434 24 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO KA LAI A `EHU TO <br /> ASSIST WITH EXPENSES RELATED TO THE LA `EHUNUI 2024 EVENT IN WEST <br /> HAWAI`I. <br /> WHEREAS, Ka La`i a `Ehu is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to <br /> contribute to the growth and development of Ke Kula '0 `Ehunuikaimalino, a Hawaiian <br /> language school located in Kealakekua; and <br /> WHEREAS, Ke Kula '0 `Ehunuikaimalino has 284 students, kindergarten to twelfth <br /> grade, and is committed to perpetuating the language, customs, traditions, skills, spirituality, and <br /> character of the Hawaiian people; and <br /> WHEREAS, Ka La`i a `Ehu is working in partnership with Ke Kula '0 `Ehunuikaimalino <br /> to host La `Ehunui 2024, a free community event to be held on March 15-16, 2024, at the Old <br /> Kona Airport Beach Park, Maka`eo County Pavilion, to celebrate the school's 30th anniversary, <br /> which will include panelists consisting of founders, graduates, and kumu of Ke Kula '0 <br /> `Ehunuikaimalino, as well as student performances, project displays, and vendors; and <br /> WHEREAS, Ka La`i a `Ehu is requesting funds to assist with expenses for decorating <br /> services and the rental of tents, chairs, and a photo booth for this event; and <br /> WHEREAS, one of the goals of the Department of Liquor Control is to support youth <br /> programs that promote educational activities in a drug- and alcohol-free environment, such as the <br /> La `Ehunui 2024 event; and <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, <br /> service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 8 will be appropriated to the Department of <br /> Liquor Control to provide a grant to Ka La`i a `Ehu to assist with expenses related to the La <br /> `Ehunui 2024 event in West Hawai`i. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby <br /> transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
