• <br /> ••40Jr`y OF dJ . <br /> • <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAI`I • STATE OF HAWAI`I <br /> • <br /> ♦,�rE OF M�'�: <br /> BILL NO. 124 <br /> ORDINANCE NO. 24 17 <br /> AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 5B,ARTICLE 2, SECTION 5B-2-1(D), OF <br /> THE HAWAI`I COUNTY CODE 1983 (2016 EDITION, AS AMENDED), RELATING TO <br /> WIND DESIGN CRITERIA FOR RESIDENTIAL BUILDINGS. <br /> BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I: <br /> SECTION 1. Chapter 5B, article 2, section 5B-2-1(d), of the Hawai`i County Code 1983 <br /> (2016 Edition, as amended), is amended by amending subsection (9) to read as follows: <br /> "(9) Subsection 301.2.1, "Wind design criteria," of the International Residential Code is <br /> amended to read as follows: <br /> "R301.2.1 Wind design criteria. Buildings and portions thereof shall be <br /> constructed in accordance with the wind provisions of this code provided that the <br /> ultimate design wind speed, VULT, as determined from Figure R301.2(5)A, is less <br /> than 130 mph[.-], unless the building is a single-story with a slab-on-grade <br /> foundation and in wind exposure category B,then wind provisions of this code <br /> shall be applicable when V ULT is less than 140 mph. The structural provisions of <br /> this code for wind loads are not permitted where wind design is required when <br /> VULT, determined from Figure R301.2(5)(A), is equal to or greater than 130 <br /> mph[.-], unless the building is a single-story with a slab-on-grade foundation and <br /> in wind exposure category B, then structural provisions of this code for wind <br /> loads are not permitted where wind design is required when VULT is equal to or <br /> greater than 140 mph. Where different construction methods and structural <br /> materials are used for various portions of a building, the applicable requirements <br /> of this section for each portion shall apply. Where not otherwise specified, the <br /> wind loads listed in Table R301.2(2) adjusted for height and exposure using Table <br /> R301.2(3) shall be used to determine design load performance requirements for <br /> wall coverings, curtain walls, roof coverings, exterior windows, skylights, garage <br /> doors and exterior doors. Asphalt shingles shall be designed for wind speeds in <br /> accordance with Section R905.2.4. A continuous load path shall be provided to <br /> transmit the applicable uplift forces in Section R802.11.1 from the roof assembly <br /> to the foundation. The ultimate design wind speed, V ULT, in the State Residential <br /> Code is equal to the basic design wind speed, V, in the Building Code, Chapter <br /> 5A, Hawai`i County Code." <br />
