of supplies and mentoring from experienced fosters. When ready to be adopted, our animals are featured at the
Petco Adoption Center,at our Adoption Fairs,on our social media and website.Information on every animal in
3.In 1,000 characters, briefly describe the program/service you are seeking grant funds for.*
A4A is seeking grant funds to expand our cat fostering and adoption program that has resulted in the successful
adoption of 843 cats(320 cats in 2022,523 cats in 2023),since the inception of A4A 2%2 years ago.Our
expansion plans include(1)adding 5 new cat fosters for a total of 28 active foster parents,(2)covering 100%of
the expenses associated with cat fostering,(3)sponsoring 2 foster training classes that are also open to the
public,(4)recruiting 5 volunteers to assist with community outreach via our social media, website, adoption
events and fundraisers,and(4)finding forever homes for 750 cats in FY2024-2025.
A4A would like to expand our network of cat fosters from the current 23 to 28 in FY2024-2025.A4A currently
provides a foster kit and covers the costs of medical care,vaccinations,flea/tick/dewormer treatments,
spaying/neutering,and microchipping for all foster animals in A4A care. Routine costs, such as food and cat
litter, are the responsibility of each foster. With grant funding,A4A plans to cover 100%of the expenses
associated with cat fostering. This will help us maintain are network of fosters, but also expand our network to
include those who want to foster, but can't take on the financial responsibility.Additionally,A4A will be able to
provide a standardized, nutritious food to each foster to further support the health of each animal.
A4A has developed its own foster training class and handbook. We held our first formal foster training class in
2023.Our plan is to offer 2 classes in FY2024-2025,and at different east Hawaii locations that would also be
convenient for community members to participate.A4A will also invite and encourage attendance by members of
our community through announcements on our social media and website. Our goal is 3-fold:(1)to attract more
volunteers to our organization,(2)to support volunteerism in general in the community and(3)to support an
understanding of animal welfare issues in our community, including the importance of spay/neuter to control cat
overpopulation.
Our partnership with Petco(Hilo)has given us access to the Petco Adoption Center(four cat cubbies).A4A
monitors the animals in the cubbies on,at minimum,a daily basis, cleans and disinfects each cubby daily and
purchases and maintains all supplies needed to keep the animals comfortable and healthy.A4A plans to
continue utilizing the Petco cubbies and to hold 1 to 2 adoption fairs at Petco each month. We also plan to add 1
-2 adoption events at other venues within our community to attract more local attention to our adoptable animals.
Our overall goal is to find forever homes for 750 cats in FY2024-2025.
