COUNTY OF HAWAI`I •i K'- •• STATE OF HAWAII <br /> •f7rE OF•NF,i� <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 455 24 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE MERRIE <br /> MONARCH FESTIVAL FOR EXPENSES RELATED TO THE 61ST ANNUAL MERRIE <br /> MONARCH FESTIVAL. <br /> WHEREAS, The Merrie Monarch Festival is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that <br /> perpetuates the memory and legacy of King David Kalakaua through an internationally <br /> renowned annual celebration of hula and Hawaiian culture; and <br /> WHEREAS,the week-long festival will begin on March 31, 2024, and includes an <br /> invitational arts fair, cultural demonstrations, hula performances, and a parade that showcases the <br /> many cultures of Hawai`i; and <br /> WHEREAS, The Merrie Monarch Festival is requesting funds for expenses related to the <br /> 61st Annual Merrie Monarch Festival, which include (1) sewing consultation/service, velvet and <br /> satin fabrics, bias tape, and thread to create costumes for the pa`u units in the parade, which <br /> would also be used for future parades, (2) security/safety consultants for in and around the <br /> parking areas due to buses dropping off keiki, and (3) replacement vinyl vertical blinds for the <br /> office and dressing room areas for safety and privacy, which includes the removal and disposal <br /> of existing blinds; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation provides and facilitates a wide <br /> variety of services to meet the needs of the community while maintaining the cultural uniqueness <br /> of Hawai`i's rich heritage, diversity, and the aloha spirit; and <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 3 will be appropriated to the Department of <br /> Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to The Merrie Monarch Festival for expenses related to <br /> the 61st Annual Merrie Monarch Festival. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby <br /> transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
