BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED : <br />FEMA approved and issued Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) Post -Fire funds for Hawaii County, <br />FM-5404-001-001 R, Community Fuels Reduction and Defensible Space, Phase I. The total project cost for <br />Phase 1 is $41,500, and the County's share is $10,375, which will come from in -kind donations. <br />We are also receiving federal funds of $2,075 for management costs at 100%. The total project cost with management costs is $43,575.00 <br />Scope of Work (SOW): Hawaii County will take the necessary actions to prepare to implement our community <br />fuels reduction and defensible space project. This project will reduce the risk of wildfire by reducing <br />hazardous fuels across seven communities and create defensible space across five residential communities. <br />Phase 1 will include developing an inventory of the exact locations for hazardous fuels removal and <br />defensible space activities. Hawaii County will develop plans and procedures for Best Management <br />Practices Standards, per Hawaii's regulations, and conduct public outreach to property owners. <br />Additionally,coordination with regulatory authorities, permitting officials, and grant officials will be included in <br />Phase 1.
