RESOLUTION NO. 507 24 A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO MALAMA 0 PUNA TO SUPPORT THE BLACK SANDS BEACH COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION'S MALAMA KEIKI PROGRAM. WHEREAS, Malama 0 Puna is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, volunteer service organization whose mission is to provide resources to maintain a safe and healthy community through environmental education, hands-on projects, advocacy, watchdogging, and land trusting; and WHEREAS,the Black Sands Beach Community Association's Malama Keiki program is conducted during each major school break and plays a crucial role in promoting the well-being and educational development of youth through structured activities encompassing science, reading, math, music, art, and chess; and WHEREAS, Malama 0 Puna will serve as the fiscal sponsor for the Malama Keiki summer program to be held June 10-14, 2024, which will be free for all keiki in the Black Sands Beach subdivision and conducted in a safe environment where they can learn and have fun; and WHEREAS, Malama 0 Puna is requesting funds to purchase an SRA Reading Lab learning kit, eight ukulele, 13 box sets of chess, checkers, and tic-tac-toe, and six folding tables for the Malama Keiki program; and WHEREAS, one of the goals of the Department of Liquor Control is to support public programs for youth that promote educational activities in a drug- and alcohol-free environment; and WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment,materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the Department of Liquor Control to provide a grant to Malama 0 Puna to support the Black Sands Beach Community Association's Malama Keiki program. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
