REQUEST: <br /> This is a request to enter into a 5-year agreement with the University of Hawaii at Manoa for the purpose of <br /> sharing half of the cost to fund two additional Extension Agents positions in Hawai'i County. The positions <br /> will cover Indigenous Crops/East Hawai'i Master Gardeners and East Hawai'i Livestock. Payment to the <br /> State will be for half of the salary and benefits for the two Extension Agents. <br /> B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): <br /> As part of the Build Back Regional Challenge Phase 1 grant, Department of of Research and Development <br /> commissioned a contractor to conduct a survey of agricultural producers on their needs to increase and <br /> improve their production and businesses. Within 24 hours, the contractor received 268 responses. <br /> Increasing the number of Extension Agents to provide technical assistance was one of the top responses.
