No. 842/Bill No. 157 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i <br /> TIME: 1:00 p.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawai`i County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Finance,to which was referred Bill No. 157, reports as follows: <br /> Bill No. 157,transmitted by Finance Director Diane Nakagawa,via Communication No. 842 dated <br /> April 12, 2024, amends Ordinance No. 23-50, as amended,the Operating Budget for the County of <br /> Hawai`i for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2024. <br /> This bill appropriates revenues in the Federal Grants—National Coastal Resilience Fund account <br /> ($2,000,000); and appropriates the same to the National Coastal Resilience Fund account,to be used <br /> by the Department of Research and Development to complete a Community-Based Hilo Resilience <br /> and Watershed Management Plan. <br /> Committee Member Jenn Kagiwada thanked the Department of Research and Development for <br /> acquiring these funds and asked if Research and Development Director Douglass Adams had any <br /> comments. Mr. Adams thanked his staff for their hard work. <br /> Committee Chair Matt Kaneali`i-Kleinfelder asked Mr. Adams how he planned to use the funds and <br /> to provide a little background. Mr. Adams provided a detailed overview of this project's objectives. <br /> Mr. Kaneali`i-Kleinfelder asked if these funds could be leveraged with other funding sources for <br /> more significant projects.
